Announcing our Judges Award Panel

What a crazy few weeks it's been! 14 teams entered, 11 videos were finished. A terrific selection too, highlighting the very best of the region and featuring an amazing diversity of style, content and ideas.

Tomorrow we celebrate the 2017 competition with the official Gala Screening and Prize Ceremony. All videos entered will be shown on the big screen before the winners are announced.

To judge this year, we've picked a talented panel featuring our launch panellists, Rob Speranza and Daniel Alexander, plus Johnny Bartley, Head of Production at the Birmingham-based BritAsia TV.

Local friendly neighbourhood film graduate Johnny grew up in Birmingham, studied in Sheffield and honed his skills in London. A year working for the BBC World Service led to a successful freelance editor/camera operating career working for the likes of ITV, Channel 4, Adidas, Red Bull and SBTV.  After realising he was more than just a gun for hire, Johnny settled at an independent production company called Somethin'Else in which he began working on numerous pieces of content for multiple platforms such as the BRIT awards, BBC Radio, documentaries for Sky TV and his highest honour; winning a Children's BAFTA award for a show he made with spoken word artist Akala.

Now back home in Birmingham, Johnny finds himself as the new Head of Production at BritAsia TV which he describes as the 'the role he deserves, but not the role he needs right now'. When he's not thinking about work or judging on a panel, he likes to spend his time on his newly acquired allotment, eating homemade rhubarb jam whilst staring into the endless void we call Space.
